Kuthodaw Pagoda is a Buddhist stupa, located in Mandalay, Myanmar that contains the world's largest book. It lies at the foot of Mandalay Hill and was built during the reign of King Mindon. The stupa itself, which is gilded above its terraces, is 188 feet (57 m) high, and is modeled after the Shwezigon Pagoda at Nyaung-U near Bagan.

The Mahamuni Buddha Temple is a Buddhist temple and major pilgrimage site, located southwest of Mandalay, Myanmar. The Mahamuni Buddha image (literal meaning: The Great Sage) is deified in this temple, and originally came from Arakan. It is highly venerated in Myanmar and central to many people's lives, as it is seen as an expression of representing the Buddha's life.

Mandalay is the second-largest city and the last royal capital of Myanmar. Located 716 km north of Yangon on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River, the city has a population of one million, and is the capital of Mandalay Division. Mandalay is the economic hub of Upper Myanmar and considered the center of Burmese culture. A continuing influx of Chinese immigrants, mostly from Yunnan Province, in the past twenty years, has reshaped the city's ethnic makeup and increased its economic dynamism.

Mandalay Hill is a 240m hill that is located to the northeast of the city centre of Mandalay in Myanmar. The city took its name from the hill. Mandalay Hill is known for its abundance of pagodas and monasteries, and has been a major pilgrimage site for Burmese Buddhists for nearly two centuries. At the top of the hill is the Sutaungpyei (literally wish-fulfilling) Pagoda. A panoramic view of Mandalay from the top of Mandalay Hill alone makes it worthwhile to attempt a climb up its stairways.

The Mandalay Palace, located in Mandalay, Myanmar, is the last royal palace of the last Burmese monarchy. The palace was constructed, between 1857 and 1859 as part of King Mindon's founding of new royal capital city of Mandalay. The plan of Mandalay Palace largely follows the traditional Burmese palace design, inside a walled fort surrounded by a moat. The palace itself is at the center of the citadel and faces east. All buildings of the palace are of one story in height. The number of spires above a building indicated the importance of the area below.

Shwenandaw Monastery ”Golden Palace Monastery" is a historical monastery located near Mandalay Hill, Mandalay Division, Myanmar. It was built by King Mindon in the 1800s. It is known for its teak carvings of Buddhist myths, which adorn its walls and roofs. The monastery is built in the traditional Burmese architectural style. King Mindon Min died on this building. King Thibaw Min, son of King Mindon moved this building from the palace to its current location. Shwenandaw Monastery is the single remaining major structure of the original wooden Royal Palace today.

The Yadanabon Zoological Gardens is a zoo in Mandalay. The zoo has nearly 300 animals, including tigers, leopards and elephants, and houses the only potential captive breeding group of Burmese Roofed Turtles (K. trivittata) in the world. The zoo is located at the foot of Mandalay Hill and was established in 1989. The zoo is opened on 8th April 1989. In 2003, its facilities were upgraded for K500 million. Part of the upgrade program included a dedicated K. trivittata enclosure with a larger ground pond, built with emergency funds donated by BTG Studios of Sydney and Allwetter zoo Münster of Germany.
